@Majicwrench I have this exact stove.. I get a small flame during warm up... But not when it's running other that the flames under the generator that are designed in. Might want to rebuild the wick...I did mine... Could be what's allowing fuel to get there without being burned into a vapor first.
I took it apart a couple hours ago, and to be honest I'm kinda baffled about how it operates! I'll get back on it next day or two. @snwcmpr certainly not by design. BTW, the wick/filter looks fine.
@Majicwrench I've got one that looks like the twin of yours. I guess the "wick/filter" could serve as both. I've assumed it was more to transport fuel through the horizontal pipe, but I suppose it also limits the flow through that pipe. In this photo I've pulled it out. In any case, mine also has a drip leak at the control valve. I think the fuel leaks past the threads on the valve. Not sure how to stop that; perhaps a small o-ring at the business end of the valve? I doubt that was in the original design and wonder if these may have always had a slow leak there. ....Arch
@Majicwrench not the best video but in it you see the wick. I made mine from cotton actually just like this video... Unlike yours... Mine keeps the fuel in the stove. No leaking from anywhere... Can store fuel in it with the valve shut off.
My wick looks great. And stove doesn't (to my knowledge) leak when stored, just that annoying candle flame from control spindle. There is no seal there, and when stove is lit gases can leak past thread. Mystery.,,,.the fuel is obviously gravity fed from tank into generator. Valve is at the far end of generator. So how does valve control flow of fuel? Does valve, by design, let air and gases past it so more fuel can flow from tank into generator? If that is the case, a seal/packing on the thread of control spindle would actually keep stove from functioning. At the moment I think that is the design intent, dinner interrupted my sleuthing last night, will inspect again.
@Majicwrench . The vaporized alcohol enters the lower burner supply tube through this small hole, which is also used to release fuel (preheating). You know that for sure. Perhaps the channel and hole are slightly clogged (not sufficiently clear) and the gasified alcohol is looking for an outlet to the side (through the spindle)?.
@Knee GREAT pictures and explanation, methinks I understand now, looking forward to getting back on mine this eve perhaps.
I put some Loctite high temp stuff on the threads of control spindle, let it sit a couple days, broke it loose (took a good twist) and now it turns with a smooth firm feel and no more candle flame. I also slightly bent the tube so well shown in @Knee pictures so the hole/jet was aiming right into the tube. Works like a champ, life is good.
No, I'm taking up the space tween the threads so alcohol fumes can't seep thru, sorta creating my own packing.
