I have been using the 500 mL bottle for several years for fuel storage for Coleman gas. My bottle says for alcohol, kerosene, and gas. I do not own a stove that uses a remote pressurized bottle. I have not noticed any discoloration of the fuel, but I have not poured it into a clear container to test that ideas. I have an identical container that I use for alcohol. On the bottle that I use for gas I have placed a stripe of black electrical tape. So far I have remembered that the black stripe container is for gas and the one without is for alcohol. I suppose I should use a stripe that I can label gas. The Trangias are my favorite fuel bottles due to the easy to dispense lid/valve.
Ha, I just received the replacement. Same as the first. Not sure what to do. I did not expect a refund and replacement last time, so I'm not sure if I want to do that again. I am still waiting on a response from Trangia.
Update from Trangia I really will not change what I do, but, I now understand. The do-gooders have done it again. Made something as safe as the dumbest person that might possibly use it. Just like the gas cans that take 3 hands to use. Ken in NC
The trouble is, no matter what they do somebody even dumber will come along. Where does it end? ....Arch
Hi, Arch, I'll bet you remember Mr. Einstein's words to the effect that only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. Then he went on to say he wasn't so sure about the universe! Rick C
Madness! If it wasn't an HDPE bottle I would be concerned about them using solvent/acetone-based nail-varnish or something to cover up the words. It is still an unauthorised modification sold to a 3rd party by a 2nd party, without disclosure. This boils my pi$$. What would they rather? A lawsuit via an idiotic child who should have been taught better, messing around with a litre of Naptha, or an accident resulting from potential reduced structural integrity due to an unauthorised mod? If the 3rd party had modified it themselves, then ultimately it is their fault, not when it has been supplied modded by a 2nd party. The Nanny State(s) are well and truly here. Alec.
So, @Rangie, a query of Liberty Mountain and what they used to cover it would be wise. I'll have to ask my local distributor if his are covered. (I might be in town today) Imagine paying someone to do that to every bottle for distribution in the US. Just sitting there brushing over the words "and gasoline". Ken in NC
Crossing out the "and gasoline" is probably better for us than the alternative. Now might be time to get a couple of those before they come up with some sort of child-proof container that will be bulky, prone to spillage, and cumbersome to use.
Trangia said: I do not see the bottle changing other than not listing it's use with gasoline. NON-LAWYER ALERT. The child safety legislation seemed to be about gasoline containers. If this bottle is not stated as a gasoline container it won't fall under the new guidelines. Hence the words removed. I do agree, get some now.
They could re-label it "Not safe for gasoline for children in the US." Sort of like all the warning labels for compounds that cause cancer in California, but apparently not elsewhere.
@snwcmpr , hi Ken, thanks for chasing through on this. I didn't know that they were suitable for petrol and as I t won't apply to me this side of the Atlantic (yet), I'm just mulling over whether to get one for use with my 123 and stesco since the narrow spout will avoid having to carry tiny (easily lost) funnel. Regards John
@Jeopardy I use the Trangia for kero, Coleman fuel, and metho when I know I will be filling/refilling things 'in the field'. I fit them (the ones I use to refill things) with the Trangia pouring spout, as you see in the photo above). Cheers Tony
@Jeopardy John I do have too many! There is a second hand camping shop I go to that often has them very cheap because the backpackers finish their travels and get rid of them before flying home. Somehow they look lonely and I bring them home. Cheers Tony
@Jeopardy They are awesome. I have a lot, but less than @Tony Press. Like I wrote earlier, I have not had a problem with white gas, and Trangia said they are fine for gasoline. HDPE on the bottom. Ken in NC
