FYI Today I had an opportunity to fit that extra O-ring to another Trangia safety spout (on a 0.3L pre-heat meths bottle) - and did check what size I use... It's a ring with an inner diameter of 3/8" and outer diameter of 9/16" - thickness is 3/32" That imperial sized O-ring fits slightly better for this application compared to the closest metric alternative which is 10 x 15 x 2.5 - but it is a tad wide/loose in the inner diameter... Ideally I'd use viton for this application, but since I have two rather well stocked complete kits (64 different sizes in all) of nitrile that's what I use... /Odd
@Odd Where do you fit your added oring? The video shows an added oring that will seal when the lock is all the way down. It won't help during pouring.
Actually it does help. You only unscrew the red 'nut' slightly - and when you push it in (to open the valve) the 'nut' gets pressed against the O-ring and then the O-ring gets pushed towards the top of the spout body AND against the white 'spindle' going through it... /Odd
No pressure problem with mine, it does it after just having filled bottle. Have just used my bottles in anger on camping trip, there is a bit of a nack to pouring, shutting valve, then tiping backwards and forwards a few times to get some of the trapped meths dribble out. Bit of a pain and always a drop left behind. It isn't so bad on the 0.3l meths one as it evaporates quickly but using the 1l one with paraffin in to refill stove always get a dribble down afterwards, at least less than before o-ring. I saw something on youtube and someone was using one of these if it helps anyone. "Sewing Machine Oiler" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132290081112
Hello, I have purchased some Trangia bottles recently (directly from trangia.se) and they all have updated text that does not mention gasoline – only alcohol and kerosene. However it does not forbid gasoline. BTW: the Trangia caps/valves seems to be compatible with Primus bottles. So it can be used in place of that cumbersome new „childproof“ Primus lids. On the other hand, the Primus lids are not compatible with Trangia bottles. I am not sure, whether this is intentional, but it makes sense – you can not accidentally pressurize the plastic bottle, but you can use a better cap/valve with your aluminum bottle. Franta
