I normally use the plumbers graphite packing which suits the purpose. I remove the deformed graphite ring and in its place wrap several turns of it on the spindle depending on form or thickness required. There is some form of medium, rubber plastic or strands but the heat on the burner will solidify the graphite as one piece once compressed in place. Should be at least 90 percent graphite. Good luck.
I have uses flat ribbon (good) and plumbers graphite (very bad). Some of the plumbers stuff melts at a low temp, and makes an interesting fireball!!! Pay attention to any temperature markings The manufactured packing is merely powdered graphite formed into a macaroni shape... The white teflon cord works well, the Teflon tape too, although not as easily done. The graphite tape, (non sticky version) is the best, and you can cut it, or fold it to fit. Tightening the nut crushes it to size, snug is good
I have tried to contact theese people twice on their website, but to no avail. Is there a trick i have to learn?
Not that I know of but the link at the start of this thread has changed - this is a Link to the same graphite tape from them.
Yeah I know. I have copied it into the contact form including my e-mail address and shipping address but no answer.
So I got a response today. They now have a 50 squid minimum So has anybody got too much for personal use? I'm buying!
Hello Guys, I have been looking for the tape but do not really know what I am looking for - thickness etc. If you would, could you pass the sellers link on to me. I would be very grateful. By the way, the flame on the 123 is a beauty.
Gentlemen, I've found this source for packing ribbon here in the USA (McMaster-Carr) and was wondering if anyone had tried some from this source. They have been around a very long time and very good at shipping. That non-adhesive graphite ribbon from McMaster Carr looks good but I haven't tried it. I've been using some .013 inch graphite sheets which I cut to length and width. At that thickness it winds easily around stove spindles without breaking. At .015 inch the McMaster stuff should work just as well.
