Slice of crusty bread and un-salted butter, thick layer of clotted cream on top, cover with sliced strawberries or banana and a dusting of sugar, now that's what I call an "open sandwich" :D

I haven't had a waffle since Newark, 5? months ago. Seems like yesterday; how the time flies.

This clotted cream stuff sort of tempted me.
Right now I'm trying to make it. 8)
I did not have any unpasteurized milk, but try to make a facsimile using the recipe found here.
It should be ready for tasting tomorrow.

I have never ever seen nor tasted clotted cream, and thus don't know how it should taste.
I'l give a report tomorrow, ..., if I survive.

    Weirdos! :?

Several and a half years ago I enjoyed a cream tea in a quiet wooded garden in the top of a Hampshire Summer. My companion at that time was a lovely girl from Des Moines, Iowa. By the by, the lady of the house came by to see if everything was ok, and berated us for not having finished the cream. Anna remarked that we had finished the scones, at which the matron assured her that eating it straight out of the bowl would not be frowned upon, rather encouraged, and it was a pleasure to watch as my friend delighted in the novel experience.

If you pm me your address Arne I'll post you a tub.

This is a sort of "half-truth" - in my experience once the tub has been found - it gets emptied - I blame the bipeds.

Running the risk of causing another public disturbance... I seem to be good at that...
I cannot figure this modern "allergy" to anything that contains fat. 0% fat this, 0% fat that.. Obviously moderation must be exercised, but food containing fat is good for you. I love butter, and a whip cream covered pie... 8) For all the chemicals in margarine, butter wins hands down in terms of health. Fat, aside from what nutrition is derived from it makes you FEEL full. You can eat lettuce till you crap like a deer but what makes a person gain weight is cosuming more energy then they need in the day. Of course too much fats, whatever type they are, can harm you too, but what gives???
Just my take anyway... Any nutritionists around??

Well, too much of anything is bad. But eliminating all fat from what you eat is also not good. Fat adds flavor, so (and this is from my doctor) most fat-free foods have LOTS of sugar added to provide the missing flavor. And if you eat a lot of sugar, your body stores the extra calories as fat. She (doctor) recommends "moderation in everything". That said, she's not crazy about junk food, in any amount.

Not sure about storing sugar as fat Arch, your body stores fat from the food you eat I thought?

Well, instead of eating a small amount of fat (for flavor), you end up eating a large amount of sugar, so more calories. Your body metabolizes the food you eat, and any in excess of what you need to keep the machinery running ends up stored as fat.

    Morning, NC, and All,

I'm with you, NC! Sweet Bride and I don't believe in "low fat", "sugar-free", "sugar substitute", nor any other less than natural substitutes!!! We love fat, sugar, butter, cream, and all other healthy foods. Arch has supplied the key in all this: "moderation"! None of the "substitutes" even come close to tasting as good as the real thing, no matter what we're discussing. So, why eat something that tastes less good? Eat what you want, in moderation, exercise, and let the rest happen as it will! It's worked for thousands of years, and will continue to do so. Just my thoughts on it all....., but it works very well for us. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

P.S. If there is ANYTHING that is next to worthless, it's refried beans, made without LARD!!!! ;)    That stuff is made without TASTE, too!!! :x   Lard is, truly, what gives refried beans their wonderful taste, and I have never met a Mexican who would even consider tasting such fare, without copious quantities of lard used in it's preparation!!!!

Far off in a distant galaxy, I used to own a (rather pretty) nutritionist who had a simple rule for eating a balanced diet.
    Admirable in its simplicity.
