I do understand where you are coming from Brian, I brought eight, I've not checked all of them but the two I used were ok. I'll have a look at the rest today if I have time, If you get them for £1 each it's still in my opinion worth it for the internals. Si
Make sense to me that it will go tight since 0,75 is a tiny bit coarser than the actual thread when measuring on some NOS NRV's. 0,70 on the other hand is too fine. The closest match is in inch with a pitch of 36tpi on those I checked. As you say 34tpi is also close, but I think 36 is closer when checking on a lot of unused ones even if it's hard when you have so few turns to "read" on, but I think the best you can get is 5/16x36 if you are looking for a standard size die. Which it not necessarily has to be (standard, that is)... but as said: probably close enough. 5/16" is also better than 8mm since the major diameter of the valve's thread is a tad bit smaller than you would expect on a M8 of any kind. Monkeyboy, sorry you haven't got any answer on your question regarding the seller yet. Hopefully someone will tell eventually.
Buzz, No one is saying who the seller is but I bought some from Juliands and they fit my Optimus 111B and another stove which I can't recall at the moment. Maybe a Hipolito. What I've been having trouble with is 8R/111 jets. I bought one from A&H and a Taiwan eBay seller and with both the threads are not quite right. Ray
Hi I am not prepared to say who my seller was, but he did the honourable thing and refunded the money. Ray - I read your post earlier, these NRVs do not fit an Optimus 111B, nor do they fit an Optimus 111 silent burner - there is resistance. I brought it to the attention of folks here that there is a problem with the NRVs I've purchased. I did my due diligence, I checked the product before I used it.
Glad to see the seller doing the honourable thing for the buyer. Pity there's not more honour between sellers! I've seen evidence of one well known seller, not yet mentioned in this thread, who gets his friends to buy from his competition & then leave negative feedback for them. Bit obvious when so many folk list their friends on Facebook! Glad I'm not involved in that seller war directly outside of copycat listings.
I checked few new NRV's that I have and got both 34tpi and 36tpi. Looks that those that are have "Sweden" stamped on them are having 36tpi. Those that have no making are having 34tpi. Whitworth thread gauge seems to fit better to those Swedish NRV's than UNC/UNF thread gauge so maybe thread angle in 55° I only have UNC/UNF gauge for 34tpi so I am not able to see would 55° or 60° have better fit on those 34tpi NRV's Interesting... Maybe 35tpi would be compatible solution for all.
Ian, Thanks for this warning. I purchased 3 NRVs last September and 3 last March. It seems like the two I used went in fine. I put 1 in the 111B about 3 months ago and use that stove regularly without problem. I don't recall it going in tight. Maybe those were from a different batch. I'll check all I have on hand. I guess we have to be wary of all our eBay stove parts purchases. Thanks, Ray
I just checked my NRV supply in an old dented Optimus 45 tank. They all have resistance so these incorrect threaded valves have been sold for about a year. I must have powered through the resistance with my mighty strength without realizing it. The 111B needs a paint job and is missing the latch and now has a rethreaded pump tube. Ray
I've had an interesting email from Gary Adams (Berniedawg) who bought some NRV's off me a while back. He noticed the tendency for the valve's to cross thread because the leading part of the thread isn't chamfered & is ragged - unlike the old Swede valves. He's tidied his up nicely as would be expected! I'm going to send his high-res closeups to the manufacturers for comment but don't hold out much hope on improvement at the price point they offer but we'll see. I may investigate more bespoke finishing from them or other suppliers but that will increase cost. Given the price war on ebay it may not be viable. I'll make inquiries & give it some thought. I know some collectors will pay more for higher quality but many go on price alone as I've seen with washer kits. I'd be embarrassed to offer some of the kits I'm seeing on ebay! If anyone has any NRV's (or anything else) from Fettlebox that is not up to scratch please let me know by PT or email & I will resolve.
Ross, When I get a kit from you it is not the price that is the reason. I have always gotten top notch parts. I would pay for the experience behind the product. And I have thought that I am supporting this site somehow. Ken in NC
Thanks man, I bought several from Julia and I haven't received them yet so have no way of checking to see if they fit until I pull the original. Thanks again for the info. buzz
I would love to buy from fettlebox but i don't have paypal and i had heck of a time trying to make a purchase otherwise. I promised to pay for the parts if someone would mail them to me with the address for remittance but never happened. Oh well. I get fleabay stuff from a friend up north who has a friend do the bidding for him. I know it is convoluted but it works buzz
Thanks Ken - my focus is going to be on kits & there are new lines in development. I have the control over the manufacturer as I do it myself! Plus at the moment Fettlebox is supporting CCS financially big style so your support as always is much appreciated!
I have just checked my stock of spare NRVs some from both the well known suppliers and none are what I would call a good fit ie they do not want to start in the pump tube thread! I cannot be bothered to send them back but will break them down for the spares and dispose of the faulty part to avoid any damage by inadvertently using them. The price I have paid for them means it's still a cheap deal for the spare, annoying etc but A Lesson for the future! You get what you pay for! So Ross it is for me from now on as far as NRVs go! Cheers nick
Hi Ross, it is time we revisitied the issue of Subscriptions on CCS. It cannot be acceptable that you have to support all the costs of running the Site and I for one would be embarrased if this was to continue. We have discussed this issue before and the consensus seemed to be that we should re-introduce subscriptions. What are you waiting for? Best Regards, Kerophile.
