I cannot imagine what burning mosquito repellent would smell like.

Spudz would say " Chlorinated Hydrocarbons ".

What is that sticking out the left hand side of the stove. Looks sort of like flint striker or some such device. Did these ever come with something like that or were these an add-on? I've never personally seen one like that - not that I've seen a lot of them.

The seller is certainly an 'Optimist' for believing it will burn on all that stuff.

Well, I believe you are right. That does look like a flint wheel lantern lighter on the passenger side of that stove. After looking at it for a while I gave up on identifying it until you made the observation. Good call!!

Yeah, looks like one of these from Coghlan's (bottom left of page).

When I bought my X-GK, one of these was attached to the (new) stove. Handy for starting, but the first time I used the stove with the windshield and a big pot was the last time I used that striker. The central shaft apparently warped from the heat. Later versions of the X-GK didn't include the striker. I've got one on my Peak 1 lantern though, and it works great.

I've got the Coleman version on a 236.

Apparently, if you sent your lantern back to Coleman for a service they kindly removed it for you. This was on the grounds that someone had suffered an accident with a lantern so-fitted. Can anyone verify that? Mine works fine... \:D/

It's tempting to point out he's clearly more familiar with the stove than he is with a dictionary - but I won't because that would be unkind. [-X ;)

Ironic, though, that he's listed it as an "Optimists" stove. ROTFPMPL |imgRemoved|

I've done the same sort of thing as Rik on a good few occasions. Most people appreciate the help but I've had similar responses at times. So I don't bother these days, unless the seller specifically requests information in the listing.

Now you're just being silly, Robert - everybody knows that the bits in dishwater would clog the jet... ;)

Arguing with a goat is a bad idea.
It wastes your time and annoys the goat.

David that is true Coleman was sued by a Boy scout for injuries ,after a globe exploded in his face. Seems he had a cracked globe, waited to long to use the sparker and was holding the lantern at face level. Hiiiissssssssssssss, spark ,BOOOOMMMM!!!!! I can't get the old fingers to twist them fast enough to spark. (old mechanic hands) can't even snap my fingers. I have a few on lanterns for display and I have a bunch still on their cards from several manufacturers. Coghlan was a retired Coleman rep you know. We got to meet him at a Coleman convention Cool guy. turned a little basement bussiness into an international one. My buddy tells me I have a stove like that (8R0 pulls it out of the retired backpacking junk and OHHH CRAPPP! there is a sparker like a harpoon hanging out of the side of the case. Big nasty hole in the case. This particular friend is the kind that modifies everything he can take a little hand held radio and have it pushing thirty five watts when finished. Dan

You can get flints from lighters that have no fuel. People throw them away but the flints still have lots of life.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Dan, please no more stories about exploding gas lanterns. It was all I could do to get Henry to touch a Coleman lantern last summer. Henry's likely now placed his lantern in the trash.

I think I was even windier than Henry about using petrol in stoves and lanterns.

I've now got over that to the extent that I was talking to someone the other day who was telling me how dangerous it must be to use petrol that way. Without thinking or realising it, I suddenly turned into a Yank and began extolling the virtues of Coleman etc. and telling him how safe they were in use. How bizarre... :!:  #-o
