Hi Guys and Girls. The day before yesterday i got my latest stove in the mail.. It was a beautiful little Primus No71, with tin, and a really reasonable price.. Like a kid at christmas, i ripped the parcel to shreds, and no later than 10 minutes later, the sweet little Primus was "at work", boiling water for a necessary cup of "joe" I like it a lot, and today i really did it.. I bought one more!! For a even more reasonable price.. This one is from 1937, and chrome plated, the first one is in brass and with a safetycap. I had good intentions when I bought it. I bought it for my brother, who also likes old stuff that works.. This one was with the original wrapping, and on it someone had scribbled 30/4 -3X, the last digit unlegible, can be either a "7" or a "9" This one needed some care before the "boil test" It was filled with some goo, that i guess is the original fuel, probably had been in it for at least 40-50 odd years, maybe even the original fuel from the 30:s?? Well, i dismantled the stove, cleaned everything, rinsed the tank with fresh fuel and reassebled. Preheated, and lit the stove. Started with no problems whatsoever, but with a green flame!! I guess that some copper has leaked out in the fuel over the years.. Now is the tough moment.. How will I ever be able to part from it?? I´d better look around for something to ease the pain a bit, maybe some other stove??!! I will have my go at the fleamarket on sunday, maybe there will be a little "stoveaway" hiding somewhere?? Ulf, it's really hard to part with something you truly like and love but as some would say there are more stoves out there waiting for a good home. Its a never ending search for the ultimate stove if ever there is such one. Something that senses you are going to make a cuppa Joe and lights itself up all on its own or tells you when its thirsty for fuel
Ulf....If it were me, I'd just keep this latest stove and tell your brother that you're still looking for one to give him.
Hi Guys!! I think that i succeded in posting the picture!! The one to the right, is my "first" Primus 71, with a slightly larger tank, I guess that it it a later model. The one to the left is the "second" one, the one I will give to my brother. I had it confirmed today, that it is a -37 model. :o And I am comitted, I have already spilled the beans, so there is no going back.. Luckily, he lives just 2 miles (3km) from me, so I have good opportunitys to come visit "my" stove.. Today, the second one got a new valvespindle, and a new gasket, so it will run flawlessly.. Still burning green, though , but I guess that it will turn blue in time.. I had another cup of Joe on the balkony, it is fine weather here, about 22C, there was a little rainshower, but it went away as fast as it came, so now there is sunshine, Joe and a good book on the agenda..
