    Greetings fellow stove enthusiasts!! I was reading a thread the other day that talked about replacing the little....tiny....black piece in the tank cap (the one in the spring)..... I can't for the life of me find that thread again. I have replaced the o-ring in the cap and figured out that I have a leak in the other part. The PRV? Do any of you know where that thread was, or have some great advice on how to make a new one?

    Thank you for your time!

    This thread was very helpful. I have replaced the o-ring in the fuel tank cap, and am trying to change out the black rubber stopper in the spring. It sounds like I also need to take apart my fuel cap with the special tool to check the SRV?

    By opening the SRV cap you can check the pip in SRV and the condition of the spring.

    Optimus has had at least five different type of SRV caps: Plain one, slotted, hex, penta and square. CCS's toolmaster @Longilily has made an EXCELLENT tools to them:D/:clap:. Fettlebox sells those tools:
    https://fettlebox.co.uk/safety-release-valve-multi-tool.html
    https://fettlebox.co.uk/penta-safety-release-valve-tool.html
    https://fettlebox.co.uk/square-safety-release-valve-tool-p111.html

    Hex one can be opened with allen key. A bits from safety screw bits set fits into penta and square SRV cap. BUT for penta 5 notch Torx style bits from the set that fits into penta SRV cap might damage the SRV cap.

    Before you try yo open SRV cap note that thread lock might have been used on it. So it's good idea to dissolve/open thread lock with some solvent or by applying heat. If you use heat remove cap seal because otherwise it will burn :lol:.

    Afterburner....thank you for your info. That was very helpful. After much reading on the different types of Nitrile and the requirements for the tool to remove the pip, I am wondering if it would be better to just buy a new cap? I am having trouble cutting out a new black piece that fits into the spring. I know there was a thread on this forum for a place to purchase new caps and accessories, but I can not seem to find it. Thank you for your help!

    You all are amazing. Thank you for the tips on making a new piece and for giving me the link to order a new one. I have ordered the new one and am going to try and make one to use while waiting for the shipment to arrive. Thanks again!!

    i came on this thread and had my own question. my optimus 199 sends flame thru the tank cap to. i put the tank cap from my 8R, which seemed to work okay on it and by golly a little flame fountain came through it too. makes me think there's a problem with the 199 tank but i have no idea.

    @ken f

    Empty your tank, put the cap back on, and place it in a tub of hot water and watch for where the leak is.

    Cheers

    @ken f SRV on tank lid is most probably leaking. Gasoline evaporates in hot tank and pressure drives gasoline vapor out though the SRV. You need to change SRV pip and it's good idea to change tank cap seal at the same time.
