just picked up a Svea 123 that had most of a optimus 88/124 pot set with it. missing the larger pot and the lid/pan. want to retire my msr whisperlite and use this as my main stove.

That's a nice set, and you'll enjoy it if you can find the missing pieces. Unfortunately, they're not easy to find. Your best bet is to search auction and sales sites and swap meets and such for a complete pot set. The alternative is to find another pot and lid/pan that will work with the rest of the set. Of course, you could get lucky; stranger things have happened.

    Welcome to CCS.

Welcome Matthew. Many people feel you own the “best of show”. Unless you camp in extreme conditions it is likely as good as it gets. Brad

also , the Svea 123 stove doesn't turn off until I turn it all the way to the left and use the cleaning needle to block the jet. turning the key to the right lets the stove still run.

Different burner but same operating principle. You can see how the valve closure and cleaning needle are synchronised in this cut-away:

    Welcome Matthew,
    FYI, I'll mention:
You have an Optimus Svea 123R and a

recap, you shared you have an 88 missing larger pot and pan/lid, 88 is a small/solo? cook set.

Brad suggests, what you have is (the best) as good as it gets.
Can you post a pic of your incomplete 88?
With all due respect, what Brad might be describing? is the, often praised, Optimus Svea 123 / 123R with SIGG Tourist setup.

FYI, here is one example of an 88, smaller, note lower windscreen

I’ve got a Sigg Tourist, and an ALU-Plus Groninger,,, even a Taiwan clone of a Sigg Tourist, but so far all pieces of an Optimus 88/124 have proven elusive, (or painfully dear).

Good luck in your search for the remaining pieces...
