    An early version Primus No.4200 silent cap which fits Primus No. 96 and No.97 stoves.

    PATENT SÖKT = PATENT SOUGHT

    The patent relates to ‘Primus Metal’ and not the silent cap itself.

    This cap would have been manufactured between 1922 and 1926.

    @kaw550red’s (RIP) wonderfully detailed 2010 post regarding the No.4200 cap is here

    @Doc Mark

    Cheers for that Doc.

    It’s paired with my 1923 Condrup Primus No.96 which I will get round to putting in the SRG soon - and so there will be few flame shots to show the cap in action!

    @Pharael,

    Excellent! I shall very much look forward to seeing the cap in action on your '23 Primus 96. A match made in Stove Heaven, me thinks!

    I’ve tried using mine, doing something wrong I guess, doesn’t work well.

    The flame needs to be dead vertical…if it is slightly off centre, the cap won’t work well. Worth checking using the roarer plate to check for any flame bias.

    Excellent! Thank you @Pharael , all,
    I was taken aback seeing the 4200 paired with the P96 (not the 71 :shock: ).
    Re: 4200 paired w/P71;
    1954 Primus 71 w/pin for safety release
    Another 71: not my first @Ian 's w/4200 silent, his 71 year is somewhere 1935-37 i'd guess.
    Ross: in 2010 "These were also sold as an accessory for the Primus 70 & 71..."

    "I " have no doubt it's also an accessory for the 71 but, today, I have yet to find such connection in catalogs ](*,). The 4200 works on the *71 and examples are out there. *which means 4200 works on many sm petrol models w/same burner head as 71.
    ------
    ok, back to the P96 connection (my something new learned today)
    Bryan: [4200] "...was made to fit a Primus [No.96 /97] burner head. It also fits a Radius [No.20] burner head well. It will fit an Optimus [No.96] head
    but is less stable in that head."

    ---
    day 1 i should have focused on Pharael comment crediting Bryan's 2010 post "...wonderfully detailed 2010 post regarding the No.4200 cap is here".
    ==============

    Now day 2, have read Bryan's 2010 post to the end, DEFINETLY an excellent reference but i note there are discrepancies as the year-range for the 4200 evolved.
    My take away 4200 available
    (maybe as early as 1926) 1926 -to- 1940 at least:
    1926 is the earliest the PN 4200 silent would have been offered (if that).
    and gets us
    1926 -to-1940 at least. As per Ross 4200 "...available at least up to 1940." <- source bottom of Bryan post.
    ----
    Also note:
    Bryan: 1931 "...my Primus documents ... only one mentions a silent damper for a 96/97.
    ...1931 parts list includes the 4200 silent damper for a 96 and 97
    ... "
    Dutchmike: 1931 ""...on a copy of a swedish saleslist from 1931... The 96 and 97 could be ordered with a silencer as an extra..." from Bryan post
    Me: 1937 scouring the library i found only one entry, 1937, for the 4200 (and it's paired w/P96).
    1937 (circa) Casa Primus Buenos Aires
    Ross: 1940 "These were also sold as an accessory for the Primus 70 & 71 & were available at least up to 1940 as this part number." from end of Bryan post 175 views

    @Pharael ,

    OH, YEAH!! Now that's what I'm talking about ! That is a great photo, of an excellent stove, with a phenomenal silent cap! I'd love one, but they are hard to find these days. So, I am content in being able to see your lovely duo in action, Good Sir! Huge thanks for sharing this!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc
