Went to see a guy about a carbide lamp. Got the lamp and he had this stuff in the box and he made it cheap so took it. The large one is a Svea 105...needs pot stands and burner parts but definitely restorable...the next one down in size is a Phoebus 30...kind of a dent in the top two legged...but the burner sits straight...into the parts bin I think??...then half of a Primus 71...whats there looks good...last one in the small Army green tin...not sure of...looks like a Primus 71 style but is made of steel and says Wiktorin on it with some other writing??? Nice catch, I believe Wiktorin is a Czech brand. Pretty sure something is in the Gallery.

    All the best, e

Yeah I guess. Late war production. I'm not really fond of that style of stove with the preheat on top the stove but it looks like it should be okay. It say's benzin...petrol...now are we talking gasoline? Because it needs to be tried.

Coleman fuel it was. Fired right up after the preheat. There's just something about putting a flammable substance on top of a stove filled with a flammable substance that still seems so wrong to me. lol
Anyways boiled up the kettle for tea. You won't set any kettle boiling records with this stove. No leaks or anything but if I had any intention of actually using it on a regular basis I would do the necessary changing of seals and such. I think just a bit of a clean up and a seat on the shelf for this one. I wonder what stories this one could tell? IMG_0929.JPG IMG_0923.JPG

I don't follow that about the preheat/prime. Is this not like the Svea 123 in that respect? What is the issue?

@Ed Yeah exactly like the Svea 123. I know as long as all the seals and such as up to snuff these things are very safe but in my head it just doesn't quite seem right. Gasoline and Coleman fuel are very unforgiving compared to kerosene. I'll get over it...maybe. lol :)

    Nice haul!

Any reason why you can't use alcohol (meths) for your preheat?

I share the same aversion to setting fire to highly volatile flammable liquids, like petrol, in the vicinity of my hands and eyebrows, and my 8R shows signs of some previous "out of control" situations from preheating by PO using the mini pump to expel fuel from the tank for the prime.

I could understand using some of the fuel for preheat in the field but in the comfort of one's "man cave", alcohol makes for a safer, if somewhat less spectacular start up.

Pulled the Svea 105 pump out. Leather looked good just a little stiff and gave her a light sanding to rough up the shine (thanks for that trick scouterjan) and plucked it into some oil for the night. Also gave the NRV a shot of carb cleaner. Went out this morning and dumped out the carb cleaner and reinserted the pump and gave the jet a touch with the pricker for good measure. Gave it a couple pumps and could hear the air coming out of the jet. I deemed it fuel up time so "borrowed" the one set of silent burner caps that I have from another stove (makes mental note must order a couple sets) and gave her some preheat and after 30 seconds of burning the green off it the Svea burned okay. For today at least it was the KING of my stoves!! Someday...whenever....it'll get the full fettle but for today it passed the burn test. Yay!!! Now...must make another set of pot legs. I'm getting good at it. That should be easy. :) IMG_0956.JPG IMG_0952.JPG
