I have just got this SVEA going for a friend. It look like a SVEA 153, but has a Patria regulating, self-cleaning, silent burner fitted.

As this stove is being used "in the field" I have only cleaned it up, removed the verdigris, and thoroughly fettled it.

Tony, Nice post and thank you for sharing.
Initially I thought the cross brace was added w/the burner, many 153s do not have such a cross brace. Btw I think the raising of the silent closer to the pot is better than original.

I am sharing a 153 that does have that type of cross brace AND that older lid and the older tank (3 piece construction w/2 end caps vs newer 2 piece tank).
The post also mentions, fyi, the 152 "belongs in a series from 150 to 155 depending upon configuration"

Of that 150-155 group the next link explains a 154 & 155 can be bolted together (155 is a mirror image of 154, both regulated silents) and then used as a double burner. That is slick! I will add 2 points re 154 & 155: there's an SRV and the valves and pumps are on the same side (opposing sides for these two models).

IF an early 155 did not have an SRV, I dunno?, but yours also looks similar to a 155 otherwise.
    thx again omc

I would say that Iain (Sedgman) is correct in his comments on the series numbers.

This stove is very similar to the Australian Companion single and double burners set up like this, and, of course, Companion made SVEA stoves under licence as "SVEA Companion" and then just "Companion".

With this burner, the top of the burner cap sits a bit high on the stove, so I suspect it is an after-market addition after the original burner failed.

    Cheers

Hi Tony, If you are looking for a few stoves to fettle for a friend, I have an idea.
It is interesting but my belief is the 153 and 155 models have the tank on the right side. this is despite I feel the cardboard box image in other posts appearing to show the tank on the left. :?: If your friend's stove was originally a regulated burner then it would seem 155 is correct but in this case it could be difficult to know if it was, as you say fitted later so maybe it was a 153 originally. The support brace is interesting as it does not seem to be on all stoves as a 155 in another post has none. Is there a hole on the brace on the front side, same side as the pump and if so is this where an original regulator control stuck out through it for support? A penny for your thoughts!

    Iain,

You can see in the first and 7th pics a hole in the brace: that is where a regulator control rod may have been fitted, but I haven't tried to set this stove up that way because I wanted everything tight for a person not used to fettling stoves.

The tank pump is on the right hand side.

I suspect the "Patria" burner is from a marine stove, but I could be wrong.

    Cheers

    Tony

Given the discussion about the Model Numbers for this series of SVEA stoves, here it is configured as a SVEA No.155; but with the "Patria" regulated, self-cleaning, silent burner, and the regulating handle fitted through the hole in the frame:

Note that I've added a bit of height to the trivet by using a bicycle disc brake.

And here it is before final cleaning, and set up with a standard "SVEA/Companion" roarer burner. As this stove is going to be used for bush work, this is the least complicated way to set it up (fewer things to go wrong; easier to maintain in the field:

Page 6 of this link, a catalogue from 1958, shows the different configurations for the SVEA Nos 150 to 155 series of stoves (single burner; roarer; regulated; double burner...):

    https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/8426

As the example above has "Patent Appl. For" on the tank, rather than a stamped model number (as seen in the Reference Gallery), does that help broadly date this stove?

    Tony,
Well done! You have twice quickly completed nice work on the stove with an excellent presentation. It is an impressive skillset I can in future strive to get closer to.
I am impressed w/these type Sveas and this is an older example but I'm sorry that my above comment is not accurate. Re my mistake credit goes to Tony for noting the older models 50 - 55 that I missed and hadn't factored-in to my comment above.
He has also just posted "On the trail of a Svea series", it is a link to review for addl detail re models 50-55 and 150-155:

Thank you Tony for an evolving and enlightening post, a job very well done and in short order too!
    best regards omc
