    I agree with @kerophile, and it depends on your skills and you comfort as to what choice you make.

    The Base Camp are providing you with sound advice. I have the confidence that my skills, the care I take, and the testing that I do, means that my refurbishment will produce a safe SRV if used in the proper manner.

    I posted this 10 years ago and as you imagine it attracted a number of replies and differing opinions:

    At the end of the day it should be a matter of competence and confidence, and access to some tools.
    Things have moved on since I expressed my opinion. Knowledge, tools and instructional videos have all become available, but competence is more difficult to assess.
