The 'official' container for dispensing meths/spirits to stoves and lanterns is a nice bit of kit if you can still get your hands on one. This is a bottle/can made by Radius, though other manufactures made them to the same design. If you have ever tried priming an Optimus/Primus/Radius/Petromax - type lantern, you will know why the shape of the delivery tube is essential. It also aids in dispensing to stove priming cups as well. The clever part of these bottles is that they deliver a measured dose of spirit so that the priming cup does not flood and overfill. Please excuse the quality of my sketch. Now if one of our very skilled members could produce these from metal, plastic or whatever, I think there would be a big, ready market of stovies and lampies. With care, it should do very well for you, and it will add a certain panache to your kit!! 8) For rugged backpacking, I would still prefer a plastic bottle, "just because", but for event camping, and car camping, I would love the look of the traditional glass Meths bottle, just as so many of the older kits contained! I have two of those plastic Optimus bottles, and they do work very well. But, for backpacking, it appears that they would leak, unless a one would cobble up some way to plug the holes more securely. But, as you say, Shag, they work on the exactly the same principle as the metal spirit tins that used to be supplied with stoves in tins. Thanks, again, for the additional info. By the way, for our US Stovies, I got both of my Optimus plastic spirit bottles from Shirene, at A&H, and she very well may have more to offer, if you give her a shout.

I always assumed the measure was in the amount of alcohol in the tube, but that would depend on how much is in the bottle. The way Trevor helps me to understand now, since i can't see ind=side one. Maybe I can make one. Ken in NC
Ha Ken! That was exactly what I thought when I saw your photos of the brass spirit bottle in another post. These measured dose bottles with the swan-necks are like hens' teeth.
