I bought mine in 76 from REI and it has the flat windscreen also, but if all possible it would be nice to see them side by side.
Hey, Rick, I'd be glad to do so, and will try to do that this afternoon. I'm taking a break from work, putting on my boots, grabbing a stove and day pack, and heading up the ridge behind our home!! Hi Doc hope you had a good hike. Did you take a 99 with you? Well looks like our friend Bryan picked up on this post to show and explaine the differences of the 99's. Interesting stuff.
Hey, Rick, Yes, indeed, I did have a fine hike yesterday, and took photos, which I will post here later. I did take a stove, but not a 99, though it had definitely been in the running! As you may have read in my post on Bryan's very nice photos and report, I cannot find the earliest version of the 99, which I really thought I had here. But, I will continue looking, as time permits, and hopefully, can find it. As things now stand, I do believe that Bryan has stated things correctly, with the flat-bottomed 99 arriving first, then the one with the alumium heat shield, and last the one that made use of the 8R heat shield. I can post photos of the two versions of the 99 that I CAN find, but don't know if that really needs to be done, as it's been fairly well covered, now. Hi Doc. Glad to hear you had a good hike. I have been reading Bryans post and he made everything pretty clear. (I thought there was only a single version). If at some point you run across the earliest version of the 99 it would be nice to see a couple of pics.
