Just happened to see this on the bay

You're assuming it's still got a jet but I'm not sure what that thing is on the bench between the key and the pan handle.

I wasn't able to see the bell, flame spreader nor valve clearly but they didn't look like SVEA production, probably Optimus before the 123R introduction, in which case it isn't that valuable, plus if the threads are gone then the value really drops.

The problem with those threads is that they are non-standard and you'd be lotto winning lucky to find anyone who could re-cut the threads. If the threads on the fount were OK then it might be good for spare parts but its in rough shape.

 

Well guys. I’ll fill you in on the mystery of this stove when it arrives. In my haste to buy this stove I didn’t notice the valve being upside down. Imagine that! That other “ accessory “ hopefully will be solved. I noticed that it was in rough shape though.

Well I promised a report on this stove. I have to admit that I was worried about the upside down valve. Turns out that the parts were hand assembled and not tightened so the threads weren’t damaged at all. I breathed a sigh of relief on that. The stove is in pretty good shape overall so it shouldn’t take much to get running. The strange brass tube comes out of the bottom of the valve. Mystery solved. I do need one wire potholder if any one can help.

 

Glad it worked out. Someone probably took it apart and left it too long to remember how it went back together. You can probably make the potholder with a bent nail. I've found they work pretty well even if made from different sized nails.

Make sure you get rid of the brass thingy and put a proper wick there.

That brass thing is supposed to be there. It is a mesh that comes with some of them. I have seen more with it than without.
It still needs a cotton wick, but the brass mesh wraps around it. You should get some brass wire, too, to hold the wick while it is pushed into the vaporizer.

I tried using a wick but the flame was pretty low. I then used the mesh only and wow!

 

Don't touch that key!

In that second picture are you running it without a wick at all, and with the gauze in place?

I would be interested to know whether it starts "cold" like that and for how long it runs.

I forgot to remove the key. Almost got branded. Thanks

 

It fired up from cold with the normal preheat. I boiled a pot of water with it in no time. I’ll run an endurance test next.

 

I’m only using the gauze in this stove so far.
