One or two washers nr 5?

Hi,

I recently got a Primus nr 5. As a start I’m replacing the washers.
I wonder: do I want two washers to get the spiritcup in place between the rising tube and the burnerhead.
I mean: on both sides of the cup?

Some stoves require two, some only one, depends on how the spirit cup sets astride the riser.

I favour two. It saves discovering one’s not enough on a first firing when kerosene dribbles out.

Or the dreaded vapourised kerosene cloud from under the spirit cup!
Usually happens just as the burner reaches full flight.
Can result in a spectacular sooty mess.

I have been using 2 washers @fjildman

Some are only designed for one, they ran for many years with one washer, evidenced when fettling the stove.

Usually, if the spirit dish has a flat surface adjacent to central hole, I fit two washers.

Some spirit dishes have the hole cut through the curvature of the dish with no extended flat surface, and therefore it is difficult to fit a washer on the underneath side. These are usually found with only one washer on the top surface of the dish.

You can purchase good spares from the Fettlebox, see right-hand side of the screen.
Here is the correct set for your stove:
