With the grime, I thought I had bought a Primus 5s But I discover this Prisma brand !! ?? Never heard about it Very original burner but for the rest it is a consistent copy of a primus. It is stamped under the tank. A "A" for sure, then maybe a "D" and then, it's very strange, something like "Ul ... Imus" Ultimus !! ?? Do I dream? A link with the French brand: Ultimus ?? more than that : the logo near the stam ping in several language seems to be almost Optimus Does anyone have information on this brand, the production period ? perhaps the history ?
Site search Prisma. A consensus was forming 10+ years ago prompting this correction re your: "...consistent copy of a primus." Optimus. Type "Prisma" in CCS search box and results are plenty and involve several current, long time, members. I did not stumble across @Staffan Rönn ... who is probably also aware but in case he is not, he will likely find this "interesting". I would say "shocking" except the discussions are that these are Optimus-made vs piracy of their branding. -------------------- re "Very original burner..." early deep dish silent, larger than later silents, in-use by Optimus (& Primus).
Thanks @OMC so a consensus is for "certainly Optimus made" well, I will admit I read Optimus and not Ultimus on the bottom....not evident to my eyes but possible as several letters are missing I imagine that it is very difficult to date this spur since we have so little information on this brand Is this burner of old design?
for answers ... "Type "Prisma" in CCS search box and results are plenty and involve several current, long time, members."
@OMC I type "prisma" but I didn't found "plenty of results" but perhaps I don't know how/where to search and I agree with @Tony Press : On the bottom i rather can read "A.D.UL....MUS"
search [ prisma ] if at 1st you don't succeed try and try again your example might contribute to more Prisma details. There are 3 pages of results for Prisma, i would guess 6+ other examples, various models. 5 of Feb 2022 11 of Aug 2012 10 of Aug 2017 24 of Aug 2018 I have a shiny Prisma 00 ... Detective work long ago strongly suggests Optimus manufacture. 16 of July 2008 29 of Jun 2008 30 of Jan 2011
Hi all I had a look at the Optimus catalogues, it seems this kind of burner appears on the 1910s and 1920s I can't find in the 1930s Am I right ? This could give an idea of the stove's age even if I know it can have been changed by a previous owner
where did you find it btw, what country? going with suggestion that Prisma came off Optimus production line: agree bottom stamp is a curious one for sure. I would agree and add to your dating attempts. I found the Optimus change to the next version of silent was completed by 1929. The same change Primus completed in mid 1920s... Optimus change may have been mid 20s, likely before 1929. Reason "i think" your deep dish burner is original is it fits timeline and although burners get replaced... not with an earlier burner it would most often be a later version. Consider deep dish burner, flat top filler cap, pine cone spirit cup... just those 3 details, we do not rule out as early as 190x/1910s (as late as mid/late 20s)... WHICH brings us back to Prisma, approx. WHEN were they produced? edit: doh, it just occurred to me we see Prisma examples with both flat filler caps AND globe filler caps... that should actually identify some years that they were offered (not the whole production run). from there "my guess" Prisma were not offered later but might back date to earlier. and again: "... your example might contribute to more Prisma details." fyi @igh371 @Staffan Rönn @abbahco1 @
this stove was definitively for export on the burner, you can read "dessus" in French and up in English
"PRISMA" what's in a name? -------------- we can learn more from your example. i'm glad you mentioned up / dessus. my impression: the inner cap was destined for french speaking destination. If you are suggesting the "Prisma" models (there are several) were destined for same, that could make sense. ---------------------- my "Prisma were not offered later but might back date to earlier" ... yours, back date to earlier: pre-1929: early version deep dish silent (lg., no holes) ["maybe" mid 20s or earlier. a recent thought ] pre-1924: pine cone spirit cup (myself, a detail i'm less clear on) pre-1922: flat top filler cap me: bottom stamp is a curious one for sure. and +1 I can’t see “Optimus” on the bottom stamping. Bottom: we could compare yours ("M" in Stockholm, the "+") but i hesitate to compare/relate that to Optimus examples. Although this is likely an Optimus product the curious bottom stamping on yours appears to be made specific for model sans "OPTIMUS" (the craftsman making the stamp did not adhere Optimus precedents ).
This might not help, but here is some discussion of another inner cap, this one being stamped “Up”, “Dessus” and “Oben”. Does anyone recognise this inner burner cap? Cheers Tony
If I continue to follow the very low trace towards Ultimus, what do you think of the strange resemblance between these two types of heaters/stoves !!?? A link beetween those 2 brands ? A production agreement for France? Or should we imagine that Optimus has copied on Ultimus, or vice versa ??
