I was given this by a mate as he's not that into stoves these days - thanks @BigStevie - but it must have been neglected before he acquired it as the case was in quite a state and has a few rust holes plus a broken hinge.

I'm still working on the case but the stove itself scrubbed up very nicely indeed.

Here it is on tea duty!
    IMG20221017191430.jpg

And a flame shot to finish.
    IMG20221017203018.jpg

When I first lit it, there were yellow tails on the flame but after a few minutes these disappeared.

When the case is fixed I'll post a photo or two of it in all its glory.

The only thing that's missing is the spanner but I'll probably make one myself.

All I need now is a Royale 400C but I think I might have a long wait!

    @Colin Geer ,

That's a lovely stove, Good Sir! You have to love those wonderful stoves from Korea, as they are made very well, and are, in my mind, classy!! Good job in getting it up and running very well! Good luck on the case. I have a Korean case that is in need of help, too, but I'm not quite ready to tackle it. Thanks for sharing, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Nice looking stove, congrats. Looks like she works very well. Reminds me a little of an Optimus 00.

Nice one Colin. Curious that on these the burner-to-riser-tube joint has left-hand threads. It’s caught people out trying to separate them by applying force anti-clockwise to separate them.

I didn't actually know that! For reference, do you mean the short section of tube that fits into the tank or something else?

Yes. RH thread tube-to-tank, LH thread burner-to-tube. Only manufacturer to do that, two RH threads being the norm.

The case has now been de-rusted, stripped and the outside resprayed with a pretty close matching blue. I should be ready to post the results tomorrow after I finish the inside.

The first stove I purchased with my savings from doing a paper round in 1979 from "Wakefields the army stores". Kept it and still use it quite often, it in turn led me to CCS as I was looking at how to repair it and searching the internet for some new seals. They are lovely little stoves.

My first proper stove was a Shinabro 170GR and it never failed my once! My mate had an Optimus 111B which he thought was very, very superior. In actual fact, mine was smaller, did the same job with less fuss and was very well made. Looking back I think I had the better deal, especially as weight was an issue and we used to walk miles with our packs

The case is now finished. The bottom was peppered with rust holes and while I could have filled them with silbraze or soldered a plate over them, in the end I decided to leave them alone. I made a spanner which works okay although the shape was determined by what I had lying around.

The lid had parted company with the bottom tray and needed to be reattatched. I opted for pop rivets because I had supplies of them and also because holding the two sections together to solder or weld them would have been very tricky!

You can see the rust holes when it's held up to the light.

Thankfully I discovered this in another post before I damaged the 340 I picked up a few months ago. I have been unable however to separate the burner from the riser. Several iterations of chilling the burner and heating the riser haven’t worked.

Days of sitting the assembly upside down and filling the well underneath the spirit dish with penetrating oil haven’t produced a result yet.

Given that the spanner that came with the stove fits the nut on the tank end of the riser but not the nut on the burner end I’m now wondering if the two actually do come apart.

Surely Shinabro didn’t swap that joint to right-hand threads in your example Ronan?

So, no amount of spannering clockwise would separate the joint? Spanner on each hexagon and with the spanners separated by a few degrees of arc, how about closing the two free ends of the spanners in a vice jaws?

Thanks for the tip, but I managed to loosen the burner this morning. A dip in my ultrasonic cleaner seems to have helped a little.

I’m now wondering if there was some sort of thread sealer used - I don’t see anything that looks like a gasket.

    Thanks @kerophile

Does this stove actually have such washers, or is a seal made with a pair of lead washers on the two inner sides of the riser?
