Hi all. I have a Svea 5 stove that i think my father bought on the 50:s or 60:s. Can I get help here dating it? Pics of all markings on the stove here under. Thanks in advance.
Hej totte, Hopefully others will chime-in, i welcome corrections and we may yet narrow it further. From me, internal NRV recessed filler tube 1940s to 60s (presuming internal NRV began by 1940). One way to narrow year range more, is to answer an open question: approx. when was text added to the side? early 40s to ?? tank does not have multilingual text on the side by 63 tank does have multilingual text on the side. note @Ben Hall 's No.5 w/text on the side, his 63 instructions places his after 63 ( / mid 60s). In 70/71 came major changes "Sievert" manufacturing ended. For one, "Sievert" no longer stamped into brass after 70/71. that is my attempt at... help here dating it
@totte dating Svea stoves can never be precise, only Primus used specific year date codes, but there are changes in design features and markings which make it possible to create a timeline. And judging by some of those markers I think that your thinking you remember the stove being bought in late 1950s or early 1960s is pretty well spot on. The points I am looking at in particular are the large Arabic script panel on the tank top, the Sievert marked pressure release screw and pump tube cap, and the classic Svea padded feet. Those padded feet disappeared from Svea branded stoves later in the 1960s, but I'm sure those other 3 features would not have been found in the earlier 1950s.
