Found this stove. Dealer says it was made in Russia. Absolutley no markings except the symbol on top. What would it be worth.
Optimus 8R clone, made in Russia as noted. Great little stove! Pop in a new cap gasket, prime with meths, uses Coleman Gas. Should be a small wrench under the clip on the lid used for nipple removal and packing nut adjustment.
And, no, we don't do appraisals of stoves here, your best bet is go go on eBay and see what they're asking for them and if they SELL at that price! As it is, the sellers are usually in Eastern Europe, ask a bleedin' fortune for it, nick you solid on the shipping, and then you find out that the parts AREN'T interchangeable with a Optimus/Primus 8R, and there you are, buggered with a orphan! Murph
I have one of these, and it is a great stove. Got it on eBay for much less than those BIN "deals". True, the thread on the tank cap is different from Optimus, so I cannot use the mini-pump on it. Still, I enjoy it a lot. Yonadav
Damn, I think Murph pretty well nailed it. Remember, this comes from the people who brought you Chernobyl...
Hi Folks, A&H used to sell these about 5 years ago. As I recall I purchased mine for around $50. Are they as good as an Optimus 8R? The fit and finish isn't quite as nice, but for the money I paid it's been a very good stove. Mine runs very hot, the steel tank getting very warm to the touch. I'm glad I gave this orphan a good home. Cheers, Manny
Thanks All!! This is in Afghanistan, dealer wants $135.00 US, will check Ebay. There is no wrench. Would someone have a picture on one? Looks like a neat little stove guess I will haggle and see what happens. Yes stoves are fun!!!!
For that price, you probably could buy 2 - 3 Optimus 8R's if your really lucky and you can find parts for it. Ron
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alter-russ-Be...8338252?pt=DE_Sport_Camping_Outdoor_Camping_Küchenbedarf& These stove still appear fairly regularly as New Old Stock on German ebay. They are often considerably cheaper than this one. Regards, Kerophile.
See above link in Kerophile's earlier reply. Unless there is a good reason you want that particular stove, you should haggle a lot (really a lot) with that starting price. For a lot less you can get a new one that includes the wrench, a funnel, and spare packing. And, it is likely to work.
Hey Ewertl If you want, I can check a local store here who, if I'm not mistaken, still sells these stoves, brand new, for less then €40,-. Include shipping and it will still be less then what that guy is asking for that beaten up stove. here is my post from a few years back when I bought one. Just give the go and I'll see if the guy still has these stoves(He still had a few when I last was there a few months ago) and what postage would be to America. regards, Arjan.
Hallo Friends, this is a low price in german e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170615260902&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT RJ
Is the tank steel or chromed brass? If it is steel it would be prefect for making D1Y optimus ranger 10
