Hi all. I just picked up a Primus No. 71 yesterday and am curious how it can be dated as the stamp on bottom shows an H in a circle. There doesn't appear to be any other numbering on any of the parts. That said perhaps cleaning will reveal something. BTW how do you best clean the upper parts (not the fount)? Also - best way to clean the tin while maintaining the decals?
Centuryhouse, Nice one, thanks for posting. That's a peculiar example you have there as it turns out. It appears that the "H" is the only mark in the center of the bottom, I can't recall seeing a marking like that on a 71 (i possibly may have forgotten too). If so, "H" is for 1918 your stove was not made in 1918 and a 1918 stove does not have only the "H". I'd say that is not a date code (or not an H) and it seems to me anyway, your stove is likely a Bahco made undated Primus 71. me: "...maybe late 56?, but for sure it gets a lil goofy again c57/58 is [by 1957/58 ] when there are "some" undated P71s..." source
@Centuryhouse According to the Primus Dating Chart the "H" corresponds to 1918, but the P71 was born in 1930's. The fount has no pression release pin so it's past 1954. And the tank lid has the "Safety Release Valve" that was introduced from 1954 onward. Hi, see the sixth photo in this post. The date coding is stamped around the collar at top of the tank: 1962 Primus 71L Best Regards, Kerophile.
It still may be undated 1957/58 but my above reply was in-error/incomplete: +1 with kerophile date may well be around the collar on top. The collar would be the best/first place to check. We shall see. I also post as when i read ""H" on bottom" in OP, that was vaguely familiar. FYI Such an "H" on 71s has come up at least a couple times in the past: Curious date stamp on Primus 71 Primus 71 with H stamped on bottom I'll include another place to check for date, an undated 1957/58 P71 / tank matched with a "...57" dated tin. fyi tag @kerophile
