One thing about fettling stoves is that you are going to have to invest in some new tools, that you've very probably not seen before. Spending time in the Fettling forum, and reading about the Optimus 80 and the Primus 71, which are almost twin models, will help you learn the information about which you are asking. I've been able to find the filler cap seal on Fettle box, and an NRV - "Non Return Valve" - pip, pictured here: https://www.fettlebox.co.uk/nrv-4-5mm-pip-viton.html

However, I'm told to look for a SRV, Safety Return Valve pip. The closest thing I see on Fettlebox is one for a Svea stove: Svea 123/123R filler cap seal & safety valve pip. - The Fettlebox

But I'm not finding SRV pip for Optimus 80.

Any tips or hints? This is driving me batty.

 

You can't always just buy the part you need in this hobby. It looks like you are going to have to make your own pip. They can be punched out of a sheet of viton rubber.

Take a look at some of the links given above and give it a go.

@Edward Curran : The filler cap shown in your earlier post seems to be the very same Optimus cap that is used on the (nowadays also Optimus made) Svea 123R. Thus, the Fettlebox' 123/123R filler cap seal and safety valve pip set you've already found would very likely be the right one for your Optimus 80 as well.

To actually exchange the SRV pip you will need a pentagon key. Also, you should definitely understand how the SRV works and what you are doing (as the red disclaimer text on the Fettlebox website implies). A good start may be @Tony Press 's post on disassembling a Svea 123. Apart from the different tank and box/windscreen, a late Optimus 80 and a late (Optimus made) Svea 123 are very similar, so information you can find on CCS when searching for "Svea 123 SRV pip" or the like would apply to your filler cap as well.

From what I can tell I can use a Dremel tool to adapt a star bit to access the SRV.

Meanwhile I note what looks like a circular seal inside another valve- recessed within the cylinder indicated on the below photo.

Is there a seal up in there, and what's it called, so I can replace it?

Incidentally is there a guide outlining the various parts of stove anatomy? This stuff is not clear to a newbie.

 

@Edward Curran You are a subscriber so you can look in the reference library and find https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/optimus-80-spare-parts-in-english.45748/ exploded diagrams and parts lists. I believe there is a graphite seal in there which you do not need to service. If it leaks you tighten the gland nut a little. If you need to remove the spindle you will probably destroy the seal in which case you can replace it with graphite tape available from the fettlebox or possibly obtain a new one from Base-camp.
