Nice 71. I love those little stoves. I saw a picture of a little one recently, about the size and shape of a 71, with a winged fuel cap and 3 square brackets on the fount to hold square pot supports maybe? Does that ring a bell with anyone?

    zino nice trio thx

hi stan, re "a little one recently, about the size and shape of a 71, with a winged fuel cap and 3 square brackets on the fount to hold square pot supports maybe?"

From what you describe, a Stesco comes to mind (see link) BUT the Stesco type stoves are not 'et all the quality performance of the Primus 71s etc.

Hello again Zino, we're drifting but why not drift here, did you want to bring us back to Primus and your nice trio?
    Stan, Hazet,
Now that we see it "Not a Stesco (that I am aware of)."
    Thx, and agreed.
Also now that we do see it, is Stesco-type maybe getting close? The manufacture of these common lil coil stoves spread globally but all have VERY similar parts, some parts not unlike above example, the tank, lid and pot support brackets are looking Stesco-ish (the vaporizer... I dunno).
Hopefully a fellow stovie (on this site or the other) will know of this stove and we shall see.
    thx omc

The above non-primus non-stesco may be a Friend Campers' Stove. Stejar's post:

    https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/friend-campers’-stove.11724/

I have one that is missing one leg, but it fits nicely into an Army no. 7 case.

Note that the control key/tool contains a spare jet. Given the overall quality of the Campers' Stove series, including a spare jet is wishful thinking but a nice touch.

    Well done itchy!
I knew I had seen that Stesco-type stove on CCS previously but I could not find it.
I looked in GB, US, Australia, Japan and South Korea. I never thought to look in 'Other Countries'.

Itchy, yes well done and my thanks to you.

The vaporizer has a unique ring/(ledge?) at the lower portion, hard to see in link but this trait IS present on both examples and is a vaporizer I've not seen elsewhere iirc.

Trevor, Moderator, Kind Sir, to whom it just may concern,
ALWAYS happy for your take on things and re your
"...I could not find it. I looked in GB, US, Australia, Japan and South Korea"
In link Tony flat states that it is "made in Japan".
Might that example be considered for relocation to Japan at some point? So that this (likely quite rare?) economy example might be more readily "found" in future.
    thx omc

    Hi OMC

Your suggestion is something I thought about doing when I first re-read the thread.
I hesitated because there have been suggestions that they may have been made for a US or Australian manufacturer/supplier.
Certainly, the instructions for this brand of stove are in the US section.
In a similar way, we still display current Svea 123 stoves under 'Sweden' and not in Japan where they are manufactured.

Nevertheless, as we have no definite information about this stove (so far), I have moved it to Japan as per your suggestion.

    Trevor,
You have forgotten more than i'll ever hope to learn about these and various small burners (some impressive ancients too!).
I was unaware of the US instructions, thank you for your fellow stovie input AND for facilitating the move suggestion.

I found a [ Stesco Los Angeles ] search was fruitful and there is tons more out there I am sure.
My impression from Stephan's post is that when he posted his "Friend" ROARER version, that he hadn't realized that the roarer made it a (rare?) standout among *MANY similar economy Stesco type stoves. Tony's comment then, on that roarer example, it is made in Japan (as such, now back in it's homeland ).

One might clump Stephan's "FRIEND" version into this Gerry [Stesco type] list?:
*"Stesco, Handy Camper, Lil' Injun, Lil' Injun Scout, Scout, Camper, and Handy." +Friend, +Explorer, +Marburn. [btw *Stesco UK & Stesco US... any others?]
Thx again Gerry, it's helpful to cross-reference. Source: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/stesco-stove-identification-needed.4960/#post-42098

Thoughts varied then, Gerry: that most were made in Japan, Trevor: that most Stesco were UK. Ross: in 2008 mentions dated info on Stesco from early 30's - 68, also notes "US" btw and added "There are so many similarities in the stove & tin with other brands that are either 'Foriegn' or Made in Japan that I believe the Stesco was likely made in various countries at different times in it's history. The Ross source: http://www.classiccampstoves.com/threads/stesco-coil-burners-country-of-origin-info.8441/#post-83921

Two guesses: A. It seems Stesco originated in (early 30's) UK. ?
Some UK examples on CCS are among the earliest. (eventual link(s) to potentially the earliest Stesco example(s) is something we can only hope for)
    B. I guess only w/benefit of hindsight and many posts, that one might refer to these VERY similar little economy stoves in-tin as a certain type, for sake of this discussion I've said "Stesco type" but welcome another term that may be better suited?
    thx all omc

PS Acknowledging and my thanks to all CCS content contributors and emphasize I'm curious but also realize I'm a TOTAL "johnnie-come-lately" here and on other models. There IS this benefit of hindsight steadily emerging. Reviews of many stoves after years of input, in hindsight, we can (,lately,) share many details that "begin to add up".
