hello, does anyone in the USA have experience with a product called "mrfunnel" that claims to have patented technology to filter out water etc from all kinds of fuel. they dont seem available in europe easily so before i go to the effort of importing a few, i wondered what you thought to them. I think its a USA made product and has a US patent. Seems to be some kind of plastic hand held funnel with a specially coated wire gauze that repels water as well as trapping sediment and debris. No experience, but the principle is sound- in the early days of motoring when fuel supplies were scarce and of wildly varying quality, petrol stations used a special kind of funnel with a system of fine mesh filters, water droplets being too big to pass through but petrol could flow easily.
I bought one about 5 years ago, to use in Mexico if I had to get fuel from an iffy source. It's still new in the box, as Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) has cleaned up their act (and their fuel) immensely. I did have to get a short section of fuel resistant rubber hose ($$$$) so I could use it on the side fill on my truck... You can also use a piece of chamois skin, it does the same thing, allows gas through, & soaks up water.
Steve, Thats what we used to use (chamois skin)...took the words right out of my mouth. Worked then and works now. Question is, can you still get a chamois and what are the prices like? Bob

The fine gauze i use for making fuel filter and gauze for the 520 and up coleman stoves do the same. To my knowledge there is no special coating. Primus and Coleman funnels also have this fine gauze in them and they filter water quiet effecntly (sp). lance lance
Still sold widely and fairly cheaply (in the UK at least, I'm sure it's the same elsewhere in the world ) in automotive shops for drying down cars after washing...
