Hi all I have several questions on this 54 stove: I searched the forum, and found what could be the first hint of this stove in 1925 Am I right? This stove have been produced during a long time ...... until what year ? I have two Primus 54 M, one is from 1928 (S) the other is from 1932 (W) I wonder how the 1928 burner was preheated as there is no preheating cup? With a preheating fork ? As Tilley or old french lamps ?
The pre-heating cup is mounted on a tube that slides over the burner riser - like a No.96 cup sits on the lipstick burner (one of those with a spacer tube might fit since yours is missing) and isn’t mounted between washers. Here’s mine, fitted to a Primus No.50.
Thank you @presscall I see many things to learn about those stove for me and what about the years production ?
Hi @Michel Thanks to this great work of the late Trevor Halliday: Hyperlinked Index Swedish Manufacturers We can say that the Primus No.54 stove was manufactured from 1925 to 1961. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thanks to this great work of the late Trevor Halliday: Hyperlinked Index Swedish Manufacturers @kerophile , sorry ??? what do you mean ? Michel
@Michel Kerophile was referring to a piece of work, the ‘Hyperlinked Index’ reference database here on CCS, that a now-deceased member Trevor (username ‘Shagratork’) compiled. Great contribution from Trevor, a much-liked CCS member and friend to many here, myself included. HERE is a link to the Index.
WOW !!! what a work thanks to Trevor RIP The 54 we find here in France are named 54 M (I presume for Messing) They seems to appears only on the 1929 french catalogue ? Could it be only (as are the enameled stands) a production for the French Market ? the text says "special models to be fitted on cast iron stands" By the way : I just understood what the SE means this is for "Socle Emaillé" (enameled stand) SB is for "Socle Brut" (non enameled stand) French Primus 54SE
@Michel I believe you’re right, that the enamelled frames and stove combinations were produced only for the French market. I bought the one on the left at a brocante in Northern France and the other was from an online French source.
Hi @presscall could you tell me the production years of your stoves ? There are not many Primus SE in the reference gallery but I see that the older is 1932 I have checked the Trevor work about Primus and I don't find any hint of this Primus 54 M in any other paper, only on the french 1929 paper I wonder if this production have passed the second war, perhaps even not so long
Primus 51SE 1928 https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/back-from-my-holidays.22662/ The Primus 54 that came with the stand is a 'U' date letter, so 1930 and the Primus 51 roarer that was with the blue single stove stand is an 'S' (1928), so that's right, George. Ties in with that brilliant 1929 Primus, France, catalogue you picked up on a trip to France yourself
thanks @kerophile but pay attention this double stand is not Primus but JOLP https://weblampesapression.wixsite.com/lampes/jolp-markt-co-ltd
I have asked to several owners on this site, to tell me the production year of the stoves they own. I also asked to a friend who own 2 or 3 n° 54 Until today, there is no 54 M stove producted after 1932... We shall see later if I have more answers
@presscall Even if I hope some answers in order to verify my hypothesis this is not a urgency, the stoves have almost a century, I can wait
