What are you using as a spirit can?

Other than the spirit tins that Julian is selling, are there any small metal leak-proof containers that have spouts that don’t drip?

I know some folks are using re-cycled Ronson lighter fluid cans, but anything else?

 

Stainless steel “hip flasks” come in a range of sizes, are leak-proof, and inexpensive.

Small Nalgene plastic bottles or stainless hip flask.
I like the plastic bottles.

I use small plastic bottles, nalgene type, but with a squirt spout, no leaks or rusting out. One 2 oz. for weekend trips, 4 oz. for alcohol stove use on longer trips. I do need to set up a display for my meth cans.

These are my two favourites... The squirty bottle is what I use at home and the hip flask for when I'm out.

 

I was using a plastic squeeze bottle with twist top, but I’m not confident that it will be leak-proof once tossed in a backpack, etc. I do like the whisky flask recommendation (thanks Kerophile) with brake line in a cork for a pouring spout.

 

Brilliant idea - definitely going to nick that one!

 

I use Flight Leader Fuel-Tite bottles for both stove fuel and priming meths. They have a brass fuel shut off valve at the end of a stiff plastic hose that twists open and close. They don't leak. You can cut the hose shorter to suit your taste. They come in 250 cc and 500 cc versions and are available from radio controlled airplane sellers in England.

At home I have a few of the vintage metal tins with the fancy S bend tube...on the road though...different story. Lady friend of mine works in a dental office brings me home anything that they are throwing out that she thinks I might be able to use. I especially like the dental picks. Anyways...These are small hard plastic mouth wash bottles that they gave to each patient with a toothbrush. Brought me home probably about 50 of them a year or two ago. Outdated or something? How mouthwash can be outdated in beyond me but anyways...she told me you'll have to dump out the mouthwash. I never did. I'm cheap! I should probably take the labels off because it still looks like mouthwash! I guarantee you'll only gargle with it once. lol I can get probably 4 preheats on a Primus 96 type stove. The fondue fuel I use for preheat doesn't seem to bother the hard plastic and what with the screw type seal they've never leaked on me so far. Waste not want not.

 

I use the same as Ben. They are the best I have used.

 

I use the plastic squirt bottles for contact lens solution. All different sizes available, and they have a top that snaps into place over the squirt nozzle. So far, no leakage, but I haven't backpacked with them.

Not a new pic but see in the back of this picture the jerry can flask is my favorite.

 

I run the recycling in my workplace...so I have my pick of small Nalgene bottles, and...booze bottles! Copying the Swedish Army, I find carrying meths in human-body shaped ex-Vodka bottles, label removed, 'Poison' 'Fuel' and skull and crossbones for the illiterate, works for me. In a perfect world there would be a way to leash the lid so it would be unlosable in the snow...human body shape is important as we should try to keep the meths warm for use at 30 below, so it has to be carried inside your clothing system before you try to light it....

 

Went through a phase of oil scent sticks, a few sitting in a bowl of oil. The top up bottle has a neat twist lid that seals very well. Project to fit inner/outer tubes for getting into tricky corners.

 

I use a 100 ml plastic bottle with twist cap that Gary, redspeedster, SBP supplied.

 

The bottles that Gary supplies are excellent. They are leak-proof, very compact and dispense the fuel well.

 

I've got many small flip top plastic bottles for priming fuel.
I use Trangia fuel bottles with safety caps more than anything. They're the BEST !!!

 

I use a small plastic bottle but that give me an idea how to recycle my KGB flask ! After all it’s better than nerve gas !
