Hello again Itchy I trust all is well, Here's a 2nd annual update of your excellent 2011 post, a go-to quick reference for 8R and 8R copies. We're aware of one image, it's World Famous but the 2nd one, I didn't see that coming! Thank Giri and check out his Nomad! Nice stove. IMO the same Taiwanese stove sold by two companies in different packaging, both done in French / English, good for a Canadian market (both found in Canada). sources https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/8r-clones.22583/#post-230605 https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/taymor-nomad-2-no-501-taiwan-8r-clone.35648/ thx omc tag @Giri @itchy Oh and a PS re PT1, ongoing CCS "discussion" has it's production from 1964 to 93 (so far). They were made much earlier than I ever expected AND ran longer than I expected (survived through and beyond the 1991 CCCR collapse). Again, an ongoing discussion and that's where tentative findings have taken us so far.
Addendum: Image above shows, 8R copy, I add the name in the text so it is now searchable: Taymor Nomad 2 (No. 501). FYI I was pleased to find there is also a, 99 copy, Taymor Nomad 3 (No.502). Above I said just PT1, some may not be as familiar, PT1 is the Russian 8R copy. I maybe had CCR on the brain (a classic rock band) but my CCCR above is a typo . It is CCCP / The Soviet Union collapse of 1991. thx omc
This update is again related to the "World Famous MI NI - STOVE" above. It is the same exact stove again but this time minus the wind screen. It is same Taiwan maker and "for" the Canadian market as well, just a different package. This is an update here for itchy's great thread for "8R copies" but a twin to this one has already been posted on CCS here.
I stumbled across a couple more cross references for this same Taiwan maker (8R & 99 copies). The three 8R copies from this maker are: MI NI STOVE / TRAIL - PAK POELE / Sun Power Trail Stove *source below On this 8R copy I add, the box says Sun Power Trail Stove w/SP logo. If we stop there i say only it is made in Taiwan. Instructions with this stove (and possibly elsewhere on box) has: Sun Power Trail Stove Hein Gericke. "Hein Gericke" ties this to 70s German market. Per wiki: a German biker, opened a shop in the 70s and became the largest motorcycle dealership in Germany. His brand is marketed in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Luxembourg. So that is re Sun Power Trail Stove Hein Gericke in box and the only image on CCS I'm aware of. Interesting is that this Taiwan maker, at same time, offered a 99 copy, <--- that one, is already on CCS: Sun Power No. 909 So that is German the market. A reminder above we see, same stoves, same maker packaged for Canadian market: 8R copy Taymor Nomad 2 99 Copy Taymor Nomad 3 NOTE: in the Sun Power No.909 link, a connection to Taiwan Precise Phoenix is mentioned and that is an interesting angle, news to me. FWIW here's a discussion of some Precise Phoenix details. * in 2019 the video source is obvious. Credit to exact you tube title which is easy to open with quick search in your web browser. I am happy to post source link but, for me for now, that auto-opens the video in the thread which I prefer not to do. thx
Ok, since my last post in 2016 I picked up another 8R clone. Says Taiwan on the box and Apollo on the controller. It is an very good copy. I have a pak cook 235 Svea 123 copy that is also I nice copy. Yes the do breed.... I just got a Optimus 80 this week that I love and picked up a primus 71 today.... I fell in love again with shiny things.
adding the Taiwan R 808 .. ETC. : ) No. R 808 on left in image below and attached. gieorgi, as he often does, found/shared this key detail... ^^^ this appears to be a manufacturer catalog from actual Taiwan company (we learn over many years/examples) that made "copies" of sooo many models with various brand names (ie Precise Phoenix, Sun Power...) ? Same maker not only multiple brand names, I get impression they were very busy for decades (=multiple versions as models developed). Some examples: 8R copy your R 808 above 8R copy Sun Power (8R copy) quote here "Sun Power trail stove I have which is an 8r clone" 8R copy Sun Power Trail Stove 8R copy Taymor Nomad 2 (501) above, should be same maker 8R copy Precise Phoenix Backpacker: PATH..._? , Style No.53585 *at the moment it seems (Korean?) PP backpacker ^^^ is not same maker . Several of the 8R copies above may have that same Taiwan maker but I haven't reviewed ea. separately (yet) to get to that conclusion. 99 copy Sun Power R909 99 copy Taymor Nomad 3 (502) above, should be same maker *For the Precise Phoenix brand it's likely stoves were from multiple placers for various stove model copies over many years. Re "Precise Phoenix Backpacker:" usually followed by stove/model name & Style No. _____. There are several Precise Phoenix Backpacker:... models & style No.s It depends on model but it seems clear this same company provided some of PP copies, not sure how many. IE: Phoebus 625 copy No. 636 in catalog page above next to No. R 808 Phoebus 625 copy Precise Phoenix Backpacker: Mountaineer Style 53584 "made in Taiwan for Precise Intl. Sutton, NY." on box Phoebus 725 copy, in box, Precise Phoenix Backpacker: ____? & ___? (model/name & Style No.) Phoebus 725 copy Precise Phoenix Backpacker: ____? & ____? and PP 725 copy here and PP 725 copy, in box here
Nice to see Shinabro here. If anybody is interested what Shinabro means; in Korean, write as 시나브로 A Pure Korean word, a sort of Adverb. Means 'a little by little, but don't recognize it has been coming to' - I don't speak English well so cannot interprete a way better. in the meanwhile, 시나브로(Shinabro) was a product name of Cigarette so many years ago, no more exist now. (so, what comes me as 'Shinabro' way with this cigarette? A cancer? very horrible naming as the cigarette! meh...) This scanned copy was from Monthly magazine, '월간 산 (MOUNTAIN)' year 1977, Feb. You can see the left page, blue colored; Shinabro [Kerosene] Camping stove. The performance is guaranteed as Swedish Svea's by Lab test. No. 340R for Outdoors No. 340SL for Indoortents. (silent burner) A short story of Kovea; the founder Mr. Kim Dongsuk (passed away in year 2011) was an employee of this company, a mid-manager of sales dept from company Shinabro. He was convinced that the entire kerosene/liquid fuel stove market must collapse totally very soon, and that the LPG/gas stove market must replace it instead. And it was true. So he quited Shinabro, and then founded his own company, Kovea. Yes, Shinabro, and of course all other Liquid fuel stove companies, all collapsed as his expectation. Too Sad but the market was it.
Hello @Yun124 Thanks for the information on Shinabro. Such sharing of knowledge is always appreciated. I do not know an English word that might mean 'a little by little, but don't recognize it has been coming to' but I think the idea may be something like "subtle changes that are difficult to recognize" or maybe "small improvements that are under appreciated". Someone else may have a better idea. Take care and thanks again.
Forgive my English, I didn't be educated about it. PC Game, Starcraft made my English without any cost yay... So I googled how to translate better Shinabro in English, but failed to find the best one. @snwcmpr , If Sneak has any negative nuance, it's not familiar with Shinabro means. It is really Positive word in Korean, but frankly NOBODY uses it in the real world, only used by the Poetmen or from my Grandfather's father. But everybody knows the meaning. So Similar as Voldemorte in Harry Potter, but Shinabro means obviously Positive yes...! Thank you messrs and have good days! Yun
Yes, 'Sneak' can have a negative meaning. But, not always. It can be a playful use of the word to quietly approach and be there without being seen. 'a little by little, but don't recognize it has been coming to'
I already have some side collections. Meth dispensers, 96's, 8/8R's, only a couple 8R clone types, 42's, lamps, lanterns. Side collections of lantern models where a A,B,C, etc were made. Have not seen some of the 8R types from other companies listed above. Extra rat holes to pour money into. Duane
Re Asian 8R copies above, More details for Sunmate Thunder model have posted in this meanwhile, for one it is made in Japan. I'll not try to cross reference specific link(s) but FYI a "Sunmate Thunder" CCS search today will find more details.
